In this guide, we’re going to show you all the ways that you can help keep your Disney+ account safe and secure. Plus, plenty of these tips can apply to other websites and services too.

1. Use a Strong Password

This is internet security 101, but it bears mentioning: use a strong and unique password for your Disney+ account. Take head of these important rules:

Don’t make your password anything simple like “password” or “abc123”. Don’t make your password personal (like your date of birth or full name). Don’t use any variations of the Disney name or its franchises (e. g. “mickeymouse123”). Never reuse your passwords. Your password for Disney+ should be unique and unlike any password you use elsewhere.

Ideally, you should start using a password manager. This is a tool that manages all your passwords and autofills them on login forms. Importantly, it can also generate random, long, and secure passwords.

Consider also changing your password regularly, perhaps every couple of months or so. This means that if your password leaks, it won’t take long before it’s irrelevant.

2. Don’t Share Your Password

You can have up to seven profiles on one account; it’s easy to create new profiles on Disney+. But just because it’s easy, doesn’t mean you should do it. While it’s perfectly okay to share your Disney+ account with those in your household, giving your login details to others (perhaps friends or colleagues) is risky.

This is because the more people you let use your account, the looser your control becomes. There’s nothing to stop someone sharing your email and password with others. At best, someone could mess with your profiles and settings. At worst, someone could use those details to impersonate you or attempt to steal your account.

The Disney+ terms and conditions are clear in detailing your responsibility in ensuring password secrecy:

If you have shared your password too widely, be sure to change your Disney+ password immediately.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of your username and password and for all activities that occur on or through your Disney+ account. Disney+ will not be responsible for any losses arising from the unauthorized use of your Disney+ account, except where such unauthorized use is due to an act or omission by Disney+.

3. Be Vigilant Against Phishing Scams

Unfortunately, there are malicious people who want to steal your Disney+ credentials through phishing attacks. This is where they will pretend to represent Disney+ and get you to hand over your details.

These scams can take various forms. For example, you might get a random phone call or email claiming that there’s an urgent problem with your account. Or you might search for something Disney+ related, stumble across what you think is a legit Disney+ website, and accidentally type your password in a fake form.

There are various ways to stay vigilant against these scams. First, no-one from Disney will ever ask for your password or payment details. Immediately delete the email or hang up the phone if this happens.

Second, always check you’re on the legit Disney+ website. Your browser address bar should begin with “disneyplus.com” and you should see a lock icon that signifies a secure connection.

If you do fall for any scam, change your password immediately.

4. Sign Out When You’re Finished

One of the joys of Disney+ is that it’s available on many devices, like smart TVs, mobiles, and game consoles. It means you can pretty much watch Disney+ anywhere you go, like if you’re staying at a hotel or visiting a friend’s house.

However, something you need to be aware of is that Disney+ doesn’t automatically log you out. Let’s say you log in to Disney+ on a smart TV in your Airbnb rental, then return home. Someone could arrive at a later date and stream from your account. To combat this, always sign out of Disney+ after use on a shared device. Furthermore, remember to never let the device or browser save your password.

If you’ve forgotten to sign out of a shared device, don’t worry. Though annoyingly you can’t manage individual device logins on Disney+, you can sign out of all devices with a few clicks:

On desktop, hover your profile picture in the top-right. On mobile, tap your profile picture in the bottom-right. Select Account. Select Log out of all devices. Enter your password and select Log Out.

5. Protect Your Device

It’s equally important to keep the device you access Disney+ on secure; primarily your computer, since this is far more at risk than something like your smart TV, though other devices like your mobile and tablet too. For example, you should protect against a keylogger, which is a piece of software silently installed on your computer that records and broadcasts your every keystroke.

You should also keep your operating system updated, perform anti-virus and anti-malware scans regularly (if you’re on Windows, just use Windows Defender), and keep your firewall enabled. These are all good safety tips generally. While targeted attacks on Disney+ accounts can and do happen, a malicious user is far more interested in gaining access to your computer because it potentially grants them access to your email, bank, and other sensitive data.

Keep Control of Your Disney+ Account

Remember, the ideal scenario is that only you know the email and password to your Disney+ account. While it’s fine to let others in your household stream through their profile, you need to keep control of the account.

If things go wrong and your Disney+ account is compromised, you should contact Disney+ support as soon as possible. The customer care team is available 24/7 via chat, phone, or social media, and they can help you recover your account.
